The latest SSL Rankings are out and recently-crowned ILCA 7 European Champion Tonci Stipanovic has extended his lead at the top.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist, who also finished second in the 2022 Star World Championship, now has 12,113 SSL Points, 1,788 points ahead of Ruggero Tita, the Tokyo 2020 gold medallist in the Nacra 17 class.
There have been many movements in the SSL Global Ranking this week, with some moving up and others moving dramatically down, such as America’s Cup champion and SailGP star Peter Burling dropping 11 places to 15th.
Let’s take a look at some of the other big climbers in the top 50…
Australia’s latest ILCA 7 superstar Matthew Wearn, the gold medallist at Tokyo 2020, finished third in the ILCA 7 Europeans last week and has moved up six places to 13th in the SSL Global Ranking. He was leading the event for much of the week in extremely difficult conditions but didn’t have the best of final days.
Irish ILCA 7 sailor Finn Lynch is on an upward trajectory in his sailing career, and his 13th place at the recent Europeans was enough to move him up to a career high of 25th in the SSL Global Ranking.
The Netherlands’ Marit Bouwmeester is a fixture in the top ten of nearly every major ILCA 6 event around the world, and she won another ILCA 6 European title last week in Andora, Italy. The 100 SSL Points she gained here moved her up 15 places to 27th in the SSL Global Ranking.
The SSL Rankings are updated every Tuesday and include 113,000 sailors (67,000 skippers and 47,000 crew), highlighting the world’s top inshore sailors across a huge range of classes. The SSL Global Ranking does not replace the rankings specific to each class but completes them, to offer a simple and attractive overview of inshore sailing to the general public.
